Application Process
Ready to Grow in Character, Purpose, and Leadership?
We’re honored you’re considering Character in Command at KSA Waymaker Unlimited. Our application process is designed to help us get to know each student and ensure the program is a great fit for their journey. We also work closely with families to provide support and access where it’s needed most.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to joining the movement:
Step 1: Complete the Student Application
Available each Spring, the application is open to students who will be at least 13 years old and no older than 18 at the time of applying.
This form allows students to share more about who they are, their interests, and why they want to grow in leadership and character.
📅 Applications open: March 1
🛑 Deadline to apply: June 30

Step 2: Complete the Family Information Form
Once the student application is submitted, we ask a parent or guardian to complete a Family Information Form. This helps us better understand the student’s background and family goals. This is also where families can request financial aid or sponsorship if needed.
Step 3: Submit a Trusted Referral
Each student must be referred by a trusted adult who can speak to their character and potential. This could be a:
- Teacher or School Counselor
- Coach or Mentor
- Spiritual Leader or Pastor
- Leader from a Partner Program or Community Organization
Referrals help us affirm student readiness and establish support systems beyond the home.
Step 4: Participate in a Family Interview
We schedule a brief family interview with the student and at least one parent or guardian. This is an opportunity for both sides to ask questions, share expectations, and connect with our team. Interviews are offered virtually or in-person, depending on the region.
Step 5: Participate in a Student Interview
We then hold a short student-only interview to learn more about the applicant’s goals, interests, and motivation. This is a relaxed, friendly conversation to ensure the student is ready and excited to take this next step.
Step 6: Complete the Thrive in Motion Course
If the student is accepted after interviews, they will be invited to complete our introductory course, Thrive in Motion. This course introduces students to foundational concepts in character development and self-leadership.
- Must be completed by September 30 of enrolling year to enter the full Character in Command program
- Students receive lifetime access, even if they choose not to proceed that year
- Successful completion is required to activate full enrollment
🎓 Final Selection & Enrollment
Once all steps are completed and Thrive in Motion is passed, selected students will receive a formal acceptance into the Character in Command program. At that point, families will receive:
- Orientation details
- Mentorship schedules
- Access to the full curriculum
- Program calendar and expectations
